Isilon - Read-Only node
Community,
A couple things happened last week that may be playing a part in why the node is in Read-Only state. Last week we had an unplanned power outage while I was in the middle of upgrading a 9 node clusters node firmware. How convenient! I continued the node firmware update the day after, yet not all of the firmware would install. I submitted a ticket to support and I am awaiting a response. well the following 3rd day the nodes started reporting that they had failed battery test which put node 2 into Read-Only mode. I been playing email tag with support which is totally frustrating and in the meantime AutoBalance has not run in several days. I ran another battery test yesterday so we will not see results until Saturday morning. IN the meantime I want to release node 2 from READ-ONLY mode as I think the battery test failure is a result of the power outage/node firmware timing. Not really a hardware issue and most likely will be cleared after I reset the BMC/CMC so that I can complete the rest of the node firmware upgrade. What is your thoughts? Is this a wise idea?
Thank you,

(NVRam enabled still set in the firmware)
Battery1: (Failed) Battery2: (Failed)
(NVRam batteries still enabled)
Battery 1 Voltage (now) = 4.000V
Battery 1 Charge (now) = Battery Test Failed (0x4F)
Battery 2 Voltage (now) = 4.000V
Battery 2 Charge (now) = Battery Test Failed (0x4F)
Battery 1 health test shows that it passed as of Wed Dec 14 14:08:06 2016
Battery 1 health test will run again on Sun Feb 12 14:08:06 2017

Do you think the alert is a false positive and I can go into my weekend knowing that if there is a power outage over the weekend that the journal will backup just fine?

Hi chjatwork,
On the node in question, you can run:
#isi_hw_status
You should see some output towards the bottom that lets you know whether the cluster is registering the batteries as working or not. If it is okay, then you should be able to override the read only status. I have a contact in support that is willing to assist if you can send me an SR number.

My contact in support said that he would have no problem taking the node out of read-only mode. He believes he found your SR and should be reaching out to you.

A power outage can certainly interrupt the battery test, causing a result of failed. It is more than likely that the next test will pass, but no one can say 100% that is the case.
