Isilon SD Edge on Dell VRTX

Question

I'm looking at the possibility of building out Isilon SD Edge on a Dell VRTX. I started going through the install documentation and on page 10 it talks about identifying systems that are compatible with Isilon SD Edge and it essentially refers the reader to VMware's HCL for VSAN. VRTX is not on the list. So now I'm trying to clarify a few of things: Are we saying the ONLY supported systems for SD Edge are systems that are also supported with VSAN? If we were to install on the VRTX and get it to work does this mean it would be with no support? Is there a way to get support for this product on the VRTX? If possible, can we clarify what specifically invalidates the VRTX from this solution? Much appreciated.

Hi Fonge,

I asked around about this and was told that you would be better off directing your question to VMWare in regards to HCL for vsan. It sounds like you aren't seeing your server model, and vmware owns that list.

Thanks but I think you may be misunderstanding the question so let me take another shot at it:

I'm not talking about VSAN support on the VRTX specifically. I am talking about the Isilon SD install guide page 10 which, as part of the install process has the reader "Identify systems compatible with EMC IsilonSD Edge" and in that section defers the reader to the VMware HCL for VSAN. I'm assuming they are saying that because the requirements are potentially similar that we should leverage that HCL not because VSAN is a dependency (at least as far as I can tell).

There is a new release available for download: IsilonSD Edge Management  Server 1.0.2 with OneFS version 8.1 You can run it on vSAN as well as Dell VRTX.
