15.4" WUXGA in southeast Michigan?

I am hoping that there is some kind sole out there with a Dell laptop computer with a 15.4" WUXGA screen someplace in southeast Michigan or the Toledo area that would allow me to check out your machine. I have concerns regarding my ability to use this screen effectively given its fine pixel pitch.

If you would be willing to let me check out your machine, I would be appreciative.

Thanks.

Check out a local computer store... the WUXGA's display is 1920x1200, so any brand of laptop with a similar resolution (i.e. 1920x1200 for widescreen or 1600x1200 for non-widescreen) should give you an idea of how the text will look on the screen.

Also, see if you can get a rep to change the settings. The one that most people use to change text size is the DPI setting, in Display Properties - Settings tab - Advanced button. I have mine set to "Large Fonts," and I find that's the perfect happy medium for my 1600x1200 screen. I find that text is just a little too small to be comfortable with the normal DPI setting, so I would definitely suggest making that change before making your decision on the screen type.

Best of luck with your decision!

I'm Canadian, so unfortunately I don't use the same stores as you would. The local computer store that I go to for my accessories (CompuSmart) carries high-end Thinkpads, and I think that's where I've seen the higher resolution screens in a store. I checked out a couple of the websites you mentioned, for interest's sake, and I was surprised to find that the notebooks all seemed to have XGA and WXGA screens - even SXGA screens were hard to find. I guess Dell is one of the only retailers offering the higher resolutions in consumer-grade electronics - the R50p Thinkpads cost almost $6,000CDN, which is over $8,000US, so I don't think they count!

Remember, you also have the 30-day guarantee period, and if you find that you don't like the WUXGA screen, you can always send it back. I'm sure that a salesperson would set up a replacement for a system with a WSXGA screen with no trouble.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help. Best of luck!

Good idea - but name a single retailer who might have such a product on display? I have checked the web sites for Radio Shack, CompUSA, Best-Buy, OfficeMax, Staples, etc., and none of them stock a computer whose screen sports this resolution.

Groston:

According to the Dell website, there is a DellDirect store located in Toledo - here:

Franklin Park
5001 Monroe Street
Toledo, OH
Phone: (419) 472-2869

Located in the mall next to Cellular Central.

They should be able to show you what you want to see.

Tim, great link. I tried to find that yesterday, and couldn't find it with a search of Dell's site.

Thanks Parkerti.

I will have to keep an eye on this page to see if they add more states.

The nearest store is hundreds of miles away for me.
