9 cell battery replacement for original 6 cell battery

My Dell Inspiron 6000 needs a new battery. It came with a 6 cell battery. If I purchase a 9 cell battery, will my current Dell charger be able to charge it without any problems or must I also upgrade the charger?

If you have a 90 watt charger, it will be OK. A 65 watt unit will not be enough to run and charge at the same time. The computer will give constant warnings, and may not allow charging.

Thanks for the info. I do have a 65w charger. I assume, from your post, that if I am using the charger with the computer off, that it will charge the 9 cell correctly. Am I right?

It's sad, but I had also called Dell Tech support and they told me that my charger would be just fine. So I bought the battery from Amazon. Serves me right for thinking that they would be helpful.

It should charge if the computer is off, but may give problems when the computer is on. Search the forums for laos of posts on this subject to get an overview.
