D600 and S-video port

Help!

I tried hooking up the S-video output to my TV last night. First, I used the S-video-to-RCA converter that I bought with the D600, but could not get the Display setting to allow me to switch on the TV output. Then I used an S-video cable that came with my camcorder to connect the D600 to my TV. That worked. The D600 seemed to recognize that a TV was connected, and allowed my to switch the display to that port. I was able to view a DVD on my TV.

I have 2 problems:

1. How do I get the D600 to recognize that the TV is hooked up when I use the S-video-to-RCA converter? And more importantly...

2. How do I unplug the S-video cable from the S-video output port on the D600 once I'm done? I have spent about an hour, sweating profusely, and could not pull that plug out again! Upon comparing the other end of the S-video cable to the S-video-to-RCA-converter, I see that they are slightly different. The S-video cable has 4 pins, whereas the converter has 7 pins. I guess the other 3 pins are not necessary, because I was able to view the DVD just fine. However, my S-video cable also has a slight protrusion on the top of the metal shell, where as the Dell converter has an indentation instead. This protrusion may have caught the shell of the S-video socket.

Has anyone run across this problem? Is there a solution?

Thanks.
