Dell Inspiron 15 7000 is turning off and restarting after BIOS update

Good afternoon,

I recently (3 months ago) bought a Dell Inspiron 15 7567 Gaming Laptop, since I got it I have had a couple of issues that were corrected after I updated my BIOS 3 days ago. But a new problem has started, a worse problem than the ones I had previously.

I decided to update my BIOS because I was having what I thought was a Video card issue. When ever I started watching a video on Youtube the laptop would freeze for about 2 seconds (just once per start, if I restarted the PC it would freeze again) and also when I turned on the computer before the DELL logo the PC would blink for a couple of seconds.

After I updated the BIOS 3 days ago, it was fixed but now my PC turns off and restarts at random times. I already ran the http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/04/product-support/servicetag/4d80l22/diagnose and everything was fine according to it.

My guess is that it obviously has something to do with the new BIOS which is the 1.2.0.

Could you please help me, I'm worry that if I keep using the PC and it keeps shutting down I'm going to damage the computer. As every time it restarts I get a blue screen, which says I could try and Fix it (Go back to a previous version) or restart.

How sad it is that none of the DELL engineers guide us to downgrade. Maybe it wll take 5 minutes for them to write. They dont think how annoying, a brand new computers restarts every 15 minutes. I will write this stupid situation for 7567 below every 7567 review on web. . Anyway happy new year.

After the BIOS Recovery window arrives, select "Rollback" and continue, the BIOS will be downgraded after the computer restarts itself.

THERE IS NO ROLLBACK OPTION ON 7567 RUNNING BIOS 1.4

Yeah, seems like we are stuck with this till a fix is out. Happy new year to everyone here.

If the Bios update was faulty and not dependent on your specific configuration, why isn't mine doing it.

If it was me, I would look very closely at the battery connector and wiring.  Check the connector very closely since I have seen the small wires push back in their slots.  Then check for any possible movement.

I think the biggest problem here is bios updates. Dell does not give enough information about the reason for the update for a 'normal' user to update the bios. I guess I am just 'old school' when it comes to bios updates.

Hi SALTGRASS ,

Thanks for the suggestion. Please let me know how to check battery connector wiring. Do I have to take the laptop to the service center for this since it is a new laptop and still under warranty.

Hi SALTGRASS ,

Only someone who was willing to open their system should be affected.  IF there was a connection problem, even a service center may not find it and waiting for Dell to suggest that be done will allow it to be under warranty.

I would, however, try running the system in different orientations to see if it made any difference.  But even here, if there was some type of internal battery problem, it would not show up.

I still cannot understand why no Dump files or Events being logged with problems.  I suppose if the problem caused an immediate shutdown, there would not be time for the system to create such an entry.

I am still willing to check my system with the 4k display but after running a video benchmark program for 30 minutes without problems, I don't think I am going to find anything.

I also did the rollback of BIOS to 1.1 now i observed no random restart

you should probably wait. ive had it sitting perfectly flat while youtube was running and it would restart all on its own. its not the battery. if 1.1.0 is working fine for you i'd say just wait it out.

I Have also seen this problem, the last time I saw it was during a Skype call, unplugged. Battery was quite well charged at the time (i.e. well over 50%, probably over 80%). Have downgraded to BIOS 1.1 for now.

before i looked it up on my own i called dell support and was on the phone for several hours. he gave me many options that now that i am well informed know would never work, but once i found out that others were having this problem i had emailed him that the 1.4.0 updated didn't work which surprised him because he expected it to fix the problem...meaning he knew what caused the problem but gave me the run around anyway. i have assignments to do and this has wasted so much time. it really pisses me off.
