Dell Inspiron 17r 5721 Fan Speed problems

Hello,

Yesterday I bought brand new Inspiron 5721 (Core™ i5 3317U / 4Gb / 500Gb / DVD-SM / 17.3"HD+ / AMD HD8730M 2GB / WF / BT / Cam / Win8)
I have a problem with Fan speed. Fan works on max speed always! when I working with docs in Wordpad or do anything simple however all the same...
fan running full speed! it is annoying especially at night in silence!

When I try to download some of the driver or bios to update my laptop links are not working.

How can I reduce the fan speed?

P.S. Laptop brand new just 1 day in use, and fan clean, so dont offer to clean it please.

Started to have touch pad problems and the fan is still loud. Finally gave up and sent the computer back for refund. There is defiantly problems with this model.

My Inspiron is 1 week young and the fan is running max speed (temp between 20 / 29C)

Sofar no solution  from Dell business .........(Beside the normal frase, sound is a personal perception...)

I tried this BIOS update (A06) and it seems to have fixed this fan problem.

I just have downloaded the A06 update.

It seems that the fan is running in lower rpm, so this might be solved?

Thanks for your reactions!

I have only had my computer one day and both my colleagues who I share an office with were going to KILL me b/c of the fan.

Thank you for this fix.  Now I can go back to the office tomorrow without protection.

Is there a Bios update for the Inspiron 17 3721 with the same issue?

Hi MikeH_D,

Here is a BIOS update for Inspiron 3721 (A06 version) You may download it from the link: http://dell.to/YH5MlZ

Note: Make sure the ac adapter is connected and the battery is charged 10% or above to update the BIOS. Also, disconnect all the external peripherals before updating the BIOS. All the programs should be closed and documents saved.

Extract the driver --> Right click and 'Run as administrator' -- > Follow the prompts on screen to install the BIOS update.

Please share the findings.

I installed the Bios update and the fan no longer runs all the time. I installed core temp and under normal computing the temp runs in the low 120s. At what temp should the fan come on at?

Hi MikeH_D,

Your computer is shipped with a diagnostic utility with which you may check the hardware functionality. From there, you would be able to check the temperature (current, maximum and minimum) and fan speed.  You may follow the steps below to run hardware diagnostic test on your computer:

  • Please restart the system and tap F12 at Dell logo.
  • Highlight the “Diagnostics” and press ‘Enter’ to initiate EPSA diagnostics.
  • To select a specific device (System fan in this case) to test, you can tap the Esc key and run test on the specific component.
  • You can choose between ‘Quick’ and ‘Thorough’ test modes to check the system hardware.
  • Run Thorough test on the system fan.
  • You would also be able to check the current, high and low system temperature as well.

If the current system fan speed and the temperature is equivalent to high, you may try cleaning the air vents of computer by using a can of compressed air to clean the vents. Before you clean the air vents of system:

  1. Turn off the System.
  2. Unplug the AC Adapter.
  3. Remove the Battery.

For more information on cleaning the vents, please visit the link: http://dell.to/SAep59

Please share the findings.

New issue on Monday after I received prompts I updated the currently installed windows 8 apps.  Directly after which I lost WIFI connectivity. At the time I thought it was the router and hard wired in, but after trying different things for the last 2 days, we figured its only my laptop affected.

When I go to Wireless under settings both wireless devices are now greyed out and can not be turned on.

Is there a fix or a way I can figure out which update did this and remove it?

Thanks for that .. The laptop arrived yesterday, one very excited daughter, one very stressed father (trying to figure out why the fan was on full whack all the time).  Found this late last night, applied and all is quiet in the house this morning.  I have to wonder why these things are not fixed before shipment though.. meh, thanks for saving what's left of my hair.

Hi! My Inspiron 15-3521's fan runs all the time after few minutes at 5400 rpm while the high is 5600 rpm and the low is 2000 rpm. The CPU temperature is 43 c with the high 47 c and low 43 c. What should I do? Please help! Thanks!
