hi Rick,

even i own an inspiron n4010 14r and i am also facing the same problem. I have installed Dell Webcam Central but what it says is that "no supporting webcam connected". When i go to device manager, i could not find the integrated webcam or any other kind of imaging device logo. What i think is that i do not have the integrated webcam driver installed on my laptop. After wasting hours on the internet, i couldn't find one also. Please help me out if possible.

Samarth,

There is no one solution to the webcam issues. I suspect it has something to do with Windows 7 but cannot place my finger on the solution. It is happening with other brand computers, also.

Some have tried pressing near the webcam and it worked. Some turned on the lights or put a white object near the webcam to get it to work. Some install the drivers and it works. Make sure you have the latest version of Skype I try to keep a list of things and hopefully someone will find a solid solution for everyone.

Have you tried...

Webcam is not functioning

Installing Dell Webcam Central

If the computer is under warranty, I suggest contacting Dell Tech Support.

hi Rick,

I've tried out both, but none of them worked out. The main problem is that my device manager is not showing the imaging devices' tab. I think I have to call Dell Technical support. What I think is that there is no webcam driver installed on my laptop. I've searched over the internet but could not even find any which works. If you have any link of webcam driver for Inspiron N4010 14R, then please forward it to me.

Regards,

Samarth

Samarth,

I had the drivers listed in the second link. Dell Webcam Central

Make sure to use Internet Explorer and download the drivers in your browser. How to by-pass the Dell Download Manager

This is seeming to becoming a really common problem. See here, here and this current thread amongst probably others. These problems seem to fall under:

• Windows not detecting the camera (no sign of the camera in device manager).

• Camera in device manager but driver not being found (is the driver is in R230103 or native to Windows 7, why is it not being found?).

For the first case. Turning on and off the camera would be ideal. It would most likely fix the problem. It commonly happens in USB webcams but it is really easy to plug/unplug them. It appears that the only way to turn off the integrated webcam is to dismantle half the computer to do so. This is not a feasible solution. Introducing the option in the BIOs and/or in the Dell Quickset application would be an ideal way of resolving this problem.

For the second case a better driver is required. A Creative/Dell/Logitech driver installer with the multiple drivers would be ideal. If R230103.exe contained the drivers then what I said here

If the Dell Webcam Centre is meant to include/install the webcam drive, please try the following:

• Install 7-zip

• Download R230103 (Dell Webcam Centre, already got)

• Right click this file, go to 7-zip and select extract to "R230103".

• Go to device manager, right click the unknown device, select "Browse my computer for driver software", select the extracted R230103 folder.

would resolve the second problem. However it didn't. Can Dell implement this as it appears many users are struggling with their webcams?

All you guys experiencing problems with your webcam, promote the idea on ideastorm and hopefully it will come up as a problem.

Here is the link: Integrated Webcams BIOs settings/Better Drivers.

Is there just a place to download the driver? I keep seeing this stuff about Webcam Central, but my driver may be out of date - 'Roll Back Device' is greyed out, and there's no option for 'Remove device software', so uninstalling just keeps giving me driver 6.1.7600.16543.  I've uninstalled and reinstalled the Webcam central program; can I just try something with the driver instead?

You might want to avoid assuming that everyone knows what you mean by a "yellow bang."  To the layperson, it is an exclamation mark.  This is especially important when dealing with customers where English is not their native language.

Hi All,

I was having such a hard time getting the webcam working again on my Dell Inspiron n4010 again. It was working fine out of the box for a long time, but about a month or so ago, I uninstalled a bunch of unnecessary programs that were crowding my hard disk and after that, it was impossible to get it to work again...

I then uninstalled all these drivers which people were talking about, uninstalled all Dell softwares, deleted the device in the Device Manager window and then restarted my laptop.

After restarting it automatically detected a 'USB Video Device', which probably isnt the 'right' thing, but it works just fine after that.

This is on a Windows7 64 bit machine.

I've had the same problem after some months using it everyday. Suddenly It began to fail getting disconnected. Ocassionally modifying the position of the lit it get gonnected again for some time and then again stopped working and into the Webcam Central it showed "There is no camera connected/attached" (I don't really remember the advice). Then I found this video explaining how to disassemble the screen with ease. As soon as I took off the frame y saw by the side of the camera a connector almost out of its place. I replaced it on its normal position and the camera started working perfectly even without the need of reinstalling or updating anything.

Hope it would be useful to you as it had been to me. Good luck!
