Dell XPS 13 9350 - SSD via USB-C 3.1 connected - slow read and write speed

Hello,

I have had a SSD (Samsung EVO 850) which I have put into this case -  Satechi Type-C Aluminum HDD / SSD Enclosure - which should support up to 10 Gbit/s. I have connected it via usb-c, but the speed is just up to 40 MB/s...all my drivers and the bios is up to date.

Do you have any ideas, what I could do?

In case you use Windows, make sure to flag the device as "optimize for performance"; by default, Windows uses a "optimize for removal" strategy.

Also, the chip inside the enclosure has serious impact on enclosure performance - e.g. the ASM1153 as shown in www.asmedia.com.tw/.../e_show_products.php (the "E" is critical; an 1053E is said to do as well)

On an XPS 13 9360, with an mSATA Samsung 850 Evo (1 TB) and a dirt cheap generic USB enclosure using an ASM1153, I get performance of up to 450 Megabyte/s (MB/s) for sequential read and write. Random read/write is significantly slower, though.

Hello shoffmeister,

thank you for your reply. I tried the "optimize for performance" option, but nothing changed.

In this review  the chip is mentioned: VIA Labs VL716

But there the speed is up to 540 MB/s, something close to your numbers I have expected...bu I have no idea what the reason for the low performance might be. I already have changed the cable...
