Ok ,  my issue is now seems resolved.

Try these :-

First solution

1. Uninstall current mcafee and reboot the machine

2. Windows defender will automatically enabled after reboot. Update windows defender (or any other ms firewall related items)

3. Reinstall mcafee using CD or download it from mcafee center. update subscription

Second one

1. Clean install from - dell back up image (i think this will include mcafee too ) then 2

2. Uninstall mcafee completely

3. Reboot.

4. Update windows defender or any other Windows update. (when everything is uptodated)

5. Reinstall Mcafee / any other antivirus

I hope this will resolve your issue

Let me know the result

Regards / Rajeev

I don't have McAfee Installed anymore. Got rid of it few days after the purchase (19/06/2011) of the system. Issue still exists. The latest drivers on Dell website do reduce the issue by a lot and could even trick you to think that the issue was resolved - reality is far from it. It still occurs but for a fraction of a second - just like a hiccup. But it does occur

Sent my system for repair on 06-Feb-2012 - they claimed to have replaced the speakers and optical drive. Didn't see the issue for about 10 days, thought I heard something like the stutter then. But over the weekend while listening to music and watching movies, it became clear the issue isn't resolved.

People claim these are causing issues -

> nVidia drivers

> dpc latency from wifi

> realtek drivers

> mcafee

> intel rapid storage software

Some people claim updating mcafee is resolving the issue or getting rid of it is. Like I said I don't have mcafee, new install but do have the issue.

this is an older post - http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3517/p/19396294/19992891.aspx#19992891

I've been through the issue with Dell by a long chain of phone and email conversations, they don't know what is causing the problem. If you call them they're gonna go through with you in an old school fashion -

> install latest drivers

> do a clean install of os

> remote access

> etc etc... before finally accepting to arrange for a collection for test/repairs

Dell doesn't know what is causing the issue, so they can't fix it. Period.

Hi! I got my XPS L502X like 4 days ago, I had the problem since day 1, I first noticed it watching a video in youtube and then while playing Team Fortress 2, also it happens when listening to mp3 in iTunes... I have been reading all this forums and trying some of the "solutions".

This is my system, i7, 8gb, nVidia 540m 2gb, and I have being doing this:

I've deactivated these:
Intel(R) Centrino(R) Wireless-N1030
2 Bluetooth dispositives

I've unistalled the Dell Support Center

Also I downloaded the last version for the Intel® Rapid Storage Technology.

I've activated the 8 Cores:
Click on Start->type msconfig->Click on Boot->Advanced Options->Check on Number of Processors->Now select the Processor that you want to activate->Click on Apply->OK.

Aso this one: Fix Audiodg.exe High CPU Usage in Windows 7
http://windows-exe-errors.com/fix-audiodg-exe-high-cpu-usage-in-windows-7/

None of these worked, then I deactivated the McAfee firewall and it has been two hours since I did that and its working good, I've been listening to music in iTunes all this time and I've been also working on a 3d software, and haven't heard the problem anymore, it seems like it was that firewall, I'll try later playing TF2 and see what happens, I'll give some feedback about. I hope this helps somebody.

Hey, since I wrote the last post, I've been working in the laptop and listening to music, keeping the McAfee firewall off, also I played Team Fortress 2 for about 2 hours and never got the issue, it seems that this fixed it, I wonder if it will happen with other firewalls, I'll plan to get a evaluation copy of Kaspersky Internet Security and see what happens.

Do you have any antivirus with internet firewall? that could be the problem! I uninstalled McAfee and put AVAST, And I had no any issues no more!

Man, I have your same laptop, you go and read my post of a couple of weeks ago. Same problem, I tried everything, also the technical support installed via remote connection the audio drivers 2 times! They also sent me a technician to change the mainboard and the speakers, and OBVIOUSLY he didn't do that 'cause that was not an hardware problem. So it was a pain in the ass for me for 2 months. Then, I didn't call the customer service no more, because I understood that they didn't have any clue of what was going on !! Here the solution, I'll post for everybody else in a separate post,

UNINSTALL the McAfee antivirus

Believe me, no more problems AT ALL after I did it!! Install AVAST or Microsoft essentials!! But take McAfee away from your PC!!! Trust me! That's the solution!

Great, still no solution. DELL is rubbish at software part. It seems that they haven't done ANY testing before airing XPS computers. I am now Ubuntu, and I have no problems except HDMI not working (but at least I know for sure, that this will be fixed soon because there are people working on it). I wouldn't recommend DELL computers to anyone who needs an out of the box working machine. They are only capable of making good hardware.

Just bought a new dell xps 15 (L520X) and I've had it for a few days and noticed this audio 'stutter'.  My music will play fine for a while then all of a sudden it will stutter and go "ehhhhrrrnnn".  Don't know how to describe the sound.

But I am connected to external speakers via the headphone port.  I uninstalled mcafee, disabled the wired ethernet port and I think everything is up to date driver wise.  Can anyone help me out? I'd rather not deal with dell, it sounds like they won't figure it out anyways and just waste my time.

Thanks in advance!

uninstalling mcafee,,and removing hd manager from start up helped me...also set power plan to high performance...and if nothing else works reinstall windows...i tried these things on my own,,,didn't contact dell...but the funny thing is after my problem was solved(without reinstalling windows) i had re enabled hd manager in start up...and there was no problem at all....!!!hope it works for you too!!!
