Docking station COM port issue

​Hi, recently got a new laptop at work, the Dell Precision. (Model M6300).I develop software to control instruments using the RS232 COM port. The laptop itself does not have a comport but the docking station does. The COM port generally works well only when reconnecting the COM port is closed and reopened again I’m getting a COM port already open error. I haven’t seen this problem before with the software and when I use an USB to RS232 converter this problem does not occur. So i suspect the docking station COM port. ​
​Is this a known issue?​
