graphics problems with Windows 7 64bit and Intel 4500mhd

I recently upgraded my Studio 1737 to Windows 7, 64bit.  Since doing so I have updated my drivers to the latest available from Dell, however I'm having horrible problems with my graphics.

I've attached two images in the hopes that someone will be able to tell me whats causing these problems.

Thanks

PudgyOne,

I do get the issue in both Vista and 7, but not in Linux. It's quite possible that flashing the BIOS would update the graphics firmware such that the interaction between the affected driver configurations and the firmware no longer result in this issue with mismatched RAM. Removing RAM is a temporary fix that seems to have worked for me, disabling Aero had no effect on my system. Applying load is also not required to see the issue on my system.

If Dell engineers suggests that a BIOS update should fix this, then I'm willing to try a BIOS update when available rather than guess where the underlying issue may originate.

Chris,

I installed the latest drivers from Intel's website a while back. It was less an issue but becoming more frequent. Someone in another thread posted that Dell has put new Video Drivers on their wbsite on November 30, 2009. I decided to download and install these drivers to try it. I did NOT install the drivers as I got this message...

These drivers are older than what we're using, or is this the fix?

Rick,

have you tried the new BIOS update (A08) yet? I installed it last night and after a days use with aero and all options enabled, everything is fine.  Hopefully the BIOS update has cured it for good, it certainly looks that way for now.

hill79,

I'll le you run it for a couple of days and then you can post back your results. I haven't activated Windows 7 and may just stick with Vista 64-bit as it seems to work better on my Studio 1737. My son does not want the upgrade, so I actually could activate it but waiting to try for 90 days first and see if things get better or not.

If you don't seem to have any issues within a week, I might try to flash the Bios and see what happens.

Please keep us informed.

Rick

Sorry, everyone, I've been out on vacation since Thursday.  I'm glad to hear that the newest BIOS seems to have resolved these issues.  If anyone has tried the latest BIOS and is still having problems, please post here.

Any word on when we can expect a similar BIOS fix for the 1537 model?

Chris,

New Bios A08, seems to work great with both Windows 7 64-bit and Windows Vista 64-bit but I was still hoping for two 4GB sticks of RAM for Christmas! :emotion-5:

Ok im gonna reinstall both sticks and find out.  Happy to see solution, i just hope its not using a old driver with missing features.  Like it always has been.   That is not a solution but a work around AKA NR

Has anyone encountered an issue with attaching an external monitor after updating the bios to A08?

The bios update did take care of the same issue I was seeing, but now, when I try to connect an external monitor (Dell), the screen is unreadible (so washed out that it looks like its 2 or 4 graphics and can't even read anything).

Not sure if it's related, but seems strange it didn't show up till after the bios update.

Thanks,
John
