How do I get a win8.1 DVD

Hello

How do I ask for a Win8.1 DVD - either physical media or .iso

When ordering I was informed that after purchase I could request a windows 8.1 DVD for product. I have had to  rebuild the machine in the past and I would like the ability to do so in the future.

Thanks

For the new Windows 8.1 system which will have warranty and as you are based in the US fill in the following form:

www.dell.com/recoverymedia

There is no official download for the Windows 8.1 OEM .iso due to unnecessary difficulties from Microsoft. If you want a true "clean install" then the Reinstallation DVD is recommended over the Recovery USB. The Reinstallation DVD unlike the Recovery USB contains no prebundled drivers or McAfee however many new systems have no optical drive so the Recovery USB is sent out by default. You may want to call Dell Technical Support instead of filling out the online form to select the DVD or USB. You can convert a Reinstallation DVD into a Reinstallation USB by following the instructions here:

http://dellwindowsreinstallationguide.com/a-clean-install-of-windows/converting-your-dell-windows-reinstallation-dvd-into-a-reinstallation-usb/

For the Windows 7 out of warranty system you need to call Dell Support to request the Reinstallation DVD however you can download a Windows 7 .iso from Digital River and follow some workarounds to convert it into a Reinstallation USB see my video here:

Additional instructions are here:

The server seems to be down. This has happened 2-3 times already. Please check again later. In the mean time I will ask Jan from heidoc.net if he has any more information.

None of the iso links to download the Windows 7 work.....what do I do now?  Thanks!

I spoke to Jan, Some of the old links which were broken now work again... We'll see if its temporary before he updates Heidoc.net (and it may take some time to update all the links as he has alot).

In the mean time these should get you going

Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit

Windows 7 Home Premium 32 Bit

Same problem only with Windows 7 Home Premium.  Hard Drive Crash and Windows will not install with the product key.  Microsoft says it can't activate, Dell has to take care of it.  Since laptop is no longer under warranty, it won't let me order the disk online.

Hello, thanks for the quick answer

I tried  www.dell.com/recoverymedia  plugged in my Dell Service Tag from Inspirion 17"that  arrived on July/30/2014 purchased on July/17 and it said

More Information An automated media dispatch is not currently available. Please contact technical support for help with replacement media.

So I'm trying to find technical support to contact, and its very difficult to find through all the menus. thanks
