Inspiron N5110 integrated webcam not working

I bought Inspiron N5110 last week. Right from the first day, I could not use the integrated webcam with Dell Webcam central or with skype software. when I open Dell webcam central, it displays this message at the bottom "No supported Webcam connected". Even in Skype, when I click on the Video, nothing shows up. I uninstalled and reinstalled dell webcam central, but no use. I also uninstalled the webcam driver from Device Manager -> Imaging devices and then reinstalled. But it's still the same. I also could not see any driver for webcam from my computer model in Dell website. driver support Any one has the same problem?

huntertore,

Did you recently install/reinstall the operating system? If yes, did you install the drivers in the correct order? How to Download and Install Drivers in the Correct Order

Did you try running the Webcam Diagnostics?

Did the webcam show in the symptom tree?

Any error messages?

Rick

I have worked with a Dell Technician in India and he has found an internal fault with my integrated Webcam. Dell will replace it free of charge when I am ready.

Suggest you get onto Dell and work with them on this problem too. Send an E Mail to . This is the only E Mail address they answered. Good luck.

ahmad yones,

When you reinstalled the operating system, did you install the Desktop/Notebook system software and the chipset drivers first? If not, the rest of the drivers will fail to install. How to Download and Install Drivers in the Correct Order

Start with the Desktop/Notebook system software and the chipset drivers and follow the list.

Windows 7 is supposed to provide the webcam drivers for most models, except some Dell XPS Models. If you have a Dell XPS model, go to Drivers & Downloads enter your service tag number, then select your operating system. Under Input you will find the webcam drivers, if they're needed for your system.

Please use Internet Explorer(32-bit) when navigating to My Dell Downloads :: Login. Use the same email address and password you use here. Click on add system. Your paid programs can be found there, including Dell Webcam Central.

***Systems purchased befor April 1, 2010 might NOT register with Dell My Downloads***

I POL,

If you answer the questions, I can tell you how to get the webcam working. Since you formatted, make sure you installed the desktop/notebook system utility and the chipset drivers first or the rest of the drivers will fail to install.

Hello Rick,

Im having a similar problem. Im still under warrenty and I am waiting for the tech to come out any day, but perhaps you will be able to help too.

My camera was working fine until, I would like to say, the tech came out and replaced my motherboard because something else was going on with my computer.

I own a Inspiron N5110.

My error message is: Webcam may be in use by another application. please...close and try again.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled everything. I have ran a diagnostic on the computer and everything (even the video) is functional. I have followed all the troubleshooting and anything else out there dealing with this integrated camera.

I have noticed that now the webcam is ran under a company called Sonix when it was originally under Creative Labs. I read were they discontinued making drives for this camera/waiting for one from sonix. Could this possibly be the problem?

bishie,

Since the motherboard was replaced, I would suggest installing the Dell System Software and the chispet drivers and follow the list. How to Download and Install Drivers in the Correct Order

Windows 7 is supposed to provide the drivers for the webcam.

You can try Dell Webcam Central it may or may not work.

You're under warranty, I would contact Dell Tech Support if that doesn't work.
