Integrated Webcam Not working after windows 10 move

I'm just chiming in to say that I have the same problem with my Inspiron 5421.  My microphone doesn't work, either.  What's the use of the much-vaunted Cortana Voice Assistant if the microphone doesn't work?

As you suggested, I tried both options you mention above, and neither work. I have the latest BIOS available from your site for my Alienware 17, and unfortunately setting Yes to the Load Optimized Defaults did not fix the issue.

The second option returns with device not found, which could be explained by the lack of a driver?

Hoping a new driver is released soon that will fix this issue.

I have the same problem with Alienware 17:  after upgrading to Windows 10, integrated webcam driver is not installing.

Dell Support, please advise. I have A14 (latest) BIOS.

The Webcam seems to be faulty you will need to replace it.

But before replacing it you can RESET the Windows 10 to check if it fixes the issue. Please follow the steps mentioned below to run RESET.

1. Please type in ‘Advanced Startup Options’ in the Search box.

2. Click on Change Advanced Startup Options.

3. On Recovery hive click on ‘Restart now’ under Advanced startup.

4. The system would go into the ‘Advanced Startup Options’ and Click on RESET.

5. Use the option Keep files to check if the issue is fixed.

I can't speak for ALL the other Dell customers that are experiencing this issue, but I have the same issue on my Alienware 17 and my webcam is NOT faulty as I can get it to work by installing an old (UNSIGNED) Windows Driver. So, this is DEFINITELY an issue with the Windows 10 driver that Dell and/or Microsoft should be fixing URGENTLY.

I will test your last set of instructions shortly and let you know. I understand where you come from as far as diagnosis goes, however there are few things that just don't match:

1) the timing: the webcam was working under win7, the moment I upgraded it did not work anymore. it's quite the coincidence.

2) most importantly: I am not the only one with the very same problem. I think a wave of webcam failures on Dell computers as we all migrate to Win10 is a bit too much to swallow, so I beg you to reconsider your diagnosis as Shando69 mentioned in this thread...

I found this post on desiways wordpress and although it relates to Windows Vista (post is from 2011), it got round my issue of the webcam not being present.  Unfortunately Skype still tells me that another program is using the camera even after a Skype update tonight..  Worth a try though, just remember to back up the registry before changing anything so you can roll back if it goes pear shaped!

All of a sudden the integrated webcam on my dell laptop stopped working. When I went to Device Manager, under Imaging Devices was listed my device as Laptop Integrated Webcam with a “Yellow exclamation”. Upon Right Click –> Properties I saw the error message below:

Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. To fix this problem you can first try running a Troubleshooting Wizard. If that does not work, you should uninstall and then reinstall the hardware device. (Code 19)

I tried various things like:

1. Uninstalling the device

2: Let windows detect and reinstall the device and the drivers

Nothing changed and it still didn’t work.

After a bit of searching, I came across this post and that was exactly the issue with my system. I tried the solution and it worked after performing one additional step. I am listing the solution and my experience here.

Cause:

Couple months ago I installed a Logitech USB webcam software on this laptop. I was cleaning my system and decide to uninstall it as it was not needed any more. Doing this, as mentioned in the post I referenced above – “It deleted the LVMVDRV.SYS but left a reference to it in the registry.”

Solution:

1) Reboot into Safe Mode (press F8 at startup).

2) Navigate to C:\windows\system32\drivers, and rename the file lvmvdrv.sys tolvmvdrv.sys.backup. If there is no such file, that’s ok. Just move to next step.

3) Open the registry editor (Start > Run > regedit > OK) and in the left pane navigate down to My Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlS 
et\Control\Class\{6BDD1FC6-810F-11D0-BEC7-08002BE2092F}.

4) Right click that key (the folder icon you just navigated to) and select Export. Save this to your desktop for now. If for some reason things don’t work out after all is said and done, you can double click this file and undo the rename from step 1, reboot, and you’ll be back where you started.

5) With the key you just exported being selected in the left pane, on the right you should see a Multi String Value (MSV) named LowerFilters, with lvmvdrv as it’s Data. Right click this LowerFilters and delete it.  Note that in my case I had no LowerFilters, just Upperfilters but decided to delete this one anyway given that I had the registry backed up

6) Reboot. Your imaging devices should be working now.

Still Not working

What? Still not working? Keep reading…

1) Go to “Device Manager”: For Vista or Window 7 just click Start-> Type Device Manager and select the entry that appears in the list above the search box. With Windows XP, you can Right Click My Computer-> Manage-> Device Manager.

2) Now in the devices listed, look for Imaging Devices-> Integrated Laptop Webcam and check if the yellow exclamation is still there. If yes, the you might want to try the first solution  once again. If there is no exclamation go to next step. Right Click Integrated Webcam-> Properties and make sure ‘device status’ says – This device is working properly.

3) You need to explicitly install the drivers for your webcam. If you have CD for the webcam drivers install the drivers using that CD. If no CD and it is a Dell computer then check if you can find the drivers folder like this: C:\DELL\drivers\WebCam. If you do Click the Setup file (type is Application") and follow the installation wizard. If no such folder too then go to  your laptop manufacturers and search for the correct drivers. Download and install.

4) Now restart your computer and you should have your webcam working.

If it still doesn’t work feel free to add a comment here and I might be able to help. And also if you have some different experience for solving this problem, please share that as well.

The last step you asked me to perform: the reset and re-install of Win10 worked out for me.

The web cam is now working.

So we can safely say that it is not hardware problem, but rather an upgrade problem, right?

So everybody who has this problem should try the reset/re-install, plus it is very neat how Microsoft built that in.

Its good that the issue with the Webcam is fixed.

No such luck for me.  I tried the reset and reinstall, and here's where I am now:

While the computer recognizes that there is a RealTek High Definition microphone on board, it still won't pick anything up using that mike.  Similarly, when I tried to set up Cortana, I got a message saying, "Your microphone may not be compatible with Cortana.  Would you like to try anyway?"

On the other hand, the computer still doesn't recognize the video camera.

Again, all of this stuff was working fine before I upgraded to Windows 10.  This was just a couple of days ago, and I have the latest BIOS, so I think I rule out a hardware problem.  This is a software issue, and I look forward to downloading Dell's patch.

I have the same model and same problem after Windows 10 upgrade. What's the solution?

I too have the same problem with my dell 1702x, sensible vision aka fast start offered me an upgrade, installed it and thats when the problem started.  It work once and only once, then it could not find my camera, I then went to dell webcam central and that also cannot find camera.  device manager says driver up to date.  Unistalled sensible vision and after a while it came back, although I haven't checked if it works on skype..Everything else seems to be working with Win10

I marked it as the answer (which means it appears green in the thread). It worked for me but didn't for another user, so try it out and let Dell know.

Just checked skype everything working including web cam, anybody else use sensible vision for startup with win 10????

Click on File Explorer where you get a new screen of the PC files.

Tap Pictures and you should see the Camera Roll folder

Right click and scroll down to Properties

Go to the Security tab where you will see all the Group or User names.

I found that one of my user profiles (HomeUsers) did not have permissions check marked for Full Control or Modify.  Once I changed those to Allow, everything worked.

Also, if you moved the location of your Camera Roll folder, that would also cause this error.
