Latitude E7440 - memory card reader doesn't work after bios update

Hello all,
After updating the BIOS to version A16 or A17 doesn't work memory card reader :(

On the aforementioned version of the BIOS, when you want to turn on the computer with a memory card inside the system do not get up! Of course, without a memory card system will get up normally but when you again put the memory card the system still can't see it.

The last working version of BIOS is A15 where you can use a memory card reader.

My OS: Windows 10 Pro (x64)

I have exactly the same problem. Last working version is A15.

Confirmed, with slightly different symptoms.

SD cards are not detected in either Win7 x64 or Win10 x64.

With Win7 x64 having an SD card in the slot would prevent Windows from starting (hung on the "Starting Windows" boot screen animation). Have since installed Win10.

With Win10 x64 it will boot, but does not recognize any inserted cards.

Tried with and without the O2 Micro driver.

Tried various SD cards: Lexar 16gb, Transcend 32gb, Sandisk 2gb.

Of course the card reader is enabled in BIOS.

Config: E7440 i5-4300 8gb Windows 10 Home 64-bit BIOS A17

Add me to the list! I had my motherboard replaced under warranty today and it had A14 installed. So, it worked great when the tech left. I upgraded to A17 and it stopped working right away! I tried A16 and it did not help. I downgraded to A15 and it worked like a charm. unfortunately, A17 fixed some other issues so I really need A18. This is silly. Why is it taking dell so long? DELL, ARE YOU LOOKING AT THESE MESSAGES??

I contacted Dell support and they recommended downgrading the SD card reader to the windows 7/8 drive and what do you know, it works! Here is the short link... to the driver... http://tinyurl.com/zb6pagv

here is the direct link to the driver but Dell does need to step it up.

I have Win 10 on my E7440 Upgraded to BIOS A17 and discovered later, like others, that the SD card reader wasn't working. Installed latest O2 driver, still not working. Rolled BIOS back to A16, still not working. So rolled back to A15 and SD card reader works again.

Pathetic! Dell really should fix this and issue BIOS A18 soon!

A18 - which will fix the issue - is due to be released soon. I won't give an ETA in the off chance that the date changes.

In the meantime if you want to use the SD card reader on the system DONT install  BIOS A16 or A17. Install up to A15 and wait for A18 to be released.

If you have already installed A16 or A17 then rollback the BIOS to A15. This article explains how to downgrade.
