M3800 USB problems

Hi, I have a M3800 laptop which is having USB problems. USB devices suddenly stop showing and even a reboot doesn't always fix it. The devices can't be seen by Windows Explorer but can be seen in Device Manager?? I have tried updating drivers and also uninstalling the USB 3 hub but that crashes the laptop and it sits at Shutdown for ever until I have to press and hold power button. Anyone else having this issue or an idea what it could be?? Thanks

I'm at one month since I installed the hotfix on one of the user's machines.  I've had no reported issues since installing the hotfix.  I'm making it a standard add to our M3800 deployments going forward.

I have another issue with the M3800. When I turn on the laptop in the mornings only the backlight from the keyboard is on, and the fan spinning very loud. I then have to turn it off by pressing the power button, and the laptop starts up fine after that. I cannot believe I am having all these problems with this high end expensive laptop. Please let me know if anyone else is having this problem, and how you fixed it. Thanks.

I think that's different from the issue for this thread.  I would recommend opening a new thread for this issue.  Do you still have warranty support for it?  I would start with Dell's chat team.

Ok, so the text in that hotfix seems to be for a different problem than the original poster had?

My problem, like the original poster, is that usb devices are very unstable and disconnect / reconnect.

For me USB harddrives work fine, but my phone and tablet connect and disconnect all the time.

I'm also on windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit while the hotfix is for windows 7.

Thanks

Fred

I tried to install the hotfix referenced above (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2895729), but i am getting a message that says "The update is not applicable to your computer".

I have the windows update KB2862330 installed and am on Windows service pack 1 (those two seemed to be the requirements).

Anyone else run into this issue with the hotfix??  This M3800 is totally driving me crazy with how many BSOD's I've had in the last month.

Do you have this update installed also?  2533552  It mentions that as a requirement as well.  If BSOD's are what you're seeing as the problem, it may be a different issue.  I never saw BSOD's with this problem, the computer's USB just wouldn't function or it would lock up while shutting down and I had to hard power it off.

Brand new Dell M3800 out of the box. Installed Logitech Unifying receiver (normal port) and Dell USB3 NIC (SS port) in the right side. Every time I download a file the mouse becomes jittery and unresponsive during the download process. It's acting like the USB hub isn't prioritize resources correctly. This hot fix does NOT resolve the issue.

Move the USB nic to the SS port on the left side. No issue. This is NOT a viable answer. Please point me to a solution. Thanks.

First, my english is not so good. please bear with me.

I have same problems as you.

My m3800's USB ports are very unstable when android devices or external ODDs connect to port.

Other devices are good. My OS is windows 8.1 pro x64.
