NO BRIGHTNESS CONTROL

No brightness control in Windows 10 on XPS 14 (L421X, Mid 2012). Had this same problem in Windows 8/8.1. Before, using Dell's outdated driver in lieu of a more recent one from Intel brought back the brightness control functionality.

Dell has released their drivers (already outdated) for this laptop for Windows 10, and it is listed as being supported for Windows 10. Is there any chance we can get some working drivers?

It's not going to happen asap, or at all. This has been an issue for 2 years, and they have done nothing. Dell's viewpoint is that you should buy a new laptop.

This is my first Dell.  Figured it was a high end laptop and would come with better support.

Dell reports this laptop is Windows 10 ready.  And it is, if you don't mind BSOD crashes and no brightness control due to faulty display drivers.  Fortunately windows 10 is not a requirement for me.  I'll go back to 8.1, which *** but at least this laptop works with it.  Definitely think twice before buying a Dell again however.

Hi Ravi,

I'm afaraid the method you proposed doesn't work for me either.
Can you tell us if there's any chance for us owners of this laptop to have a new driver released in which the video driver will work fine, with the brightness control too, please?
Thank you in advance

A big THANK YOU to @JohnRoss2113 for posting this fix. I've been stuck with low brightness on my XPS L421X for many months because Dell and Intel don't wanna fix the issue.

I just revisited this thread to see if there's some update, and glad I did.

I just tried out your registry hack after getting latest Intel HD4000 driver update from Windows Update. It worked flawlessly after applying the registry hack and restart.

I hope Dell's engineers are looking in these forums, and make this hack official in their drivers page.

Thank you again.
