Vostro 1700 - S-video S/PDIF Break-out Cable

 Hi,

I recently bought a Vostro 1700. I had assumed I'd be able to play DVDs and get 5.1 sound out of it whilst hooked up to an AV amp, and reading the manual it appears as though I am correct.

The S-video socket has the ability to output RGB RCA, and S/DIF output, or S-video, Composite RCA and S/PDIF output, but you need an adaptor/dongle - both are shown in the manual but no part number is provided (that I can see). Neither cable/dongle has been shipped with the laptop. I rang the technical help line, and they were clueless, and told me to buy a cable from my local electronics store - hmmm quality tech support.

So, does anyone know how I can get these adaptors? The part numbers might be a start.

 Thanks in advance,
 Cheezee.

Cheezee,

I don't know the specific part # for your Vostro but here are some resources that should have the adapter cable. Even without a part # you should be able to visually identify the cable you want from the diagrams in the manual:
