XPS 13 screen flickers when waking up after Windows 10 upgrade

Whenever i turn on the laptop, or wake the screen up when it goes dark, the screen starts to flicker. It's like it's glitching a couple of seconds before it stops.. It goes on for about 5-10 seconds. It started to happen after i upgraded to Windows 10 yesterday (i got my XPS 13 yesterday). It's the i7 model with the infinity touch display.

I have checked that i have all the latest drivers. So is this software, or hardware? And what can i do to fix this?

Disabling C-State worked like a charm. Thank you so much for finding a way to fix this super annoying problem!

Hello all, so I bought my XPS 13 top of the line with all bells and whistlees for the high fee it costs. And I have the *** screen flickering problem. I've read all these posts and do not want to try this or that when there is not a single recommended solution.

Does anyone know what my rights are to return the laptop for a refund (not a "repair") 7 months post purchase?

If Dell could fix this with an update, that would do the trick, although its been months now...

You wont be thanking anybody when you see that this "work around" will take a big hit on your battery life. This is NOT a fix, this is a work around. Dell released a new video driver recently, then pulled it probably because it did not fix this issue. I for one, am getting tired of waiting for a REAL fix to be released by Dell..

Hi everyone,

Quick update.

Install the following:

Intel(R) Management Engine Components Installer Driver
Chipset_Driver_KFR45_WN32_11.0.0.1153_A00.EXE

http://www.dell.com/support/home/uk/en/ukbsdt1/Drivers/DriversDetails?driverId=KFR45

This fixes the problem for me.  I have enabled C-States and been working for a week without any flickering.  If you still get issues, make sure the update applied successfully.

Make sure you download the correct file.  If it helps, my graphics driver is 10.18.15.4268.

That's good to hear that Dell are now working actively on the issue with Intel. Hopefully a fix is not too far away.

Seems like he copied one of my comments from when I first started this thread. I had a stuttering problem across the operating system from the tiles in the start menu to videos on youtube or with vlc.. and I found out that Flux caused it. Flux is a program that makes the screen temperature "warmer" at night to reduce strain to the eyes. You can check it out here. https://justgetflux.com/

Hi all,

We have come to realize that the latest driver release did not fix the issue and hence our product engineers are working with Intel on this case . I will come back once we have an update on the investigation.

I also see that by disabling C-state in the bios, some of our users have found a workaround on the issue. However, this will drain the battery faster.  You may private message me the system service tag so as to check if the issue has to do with the system configuration.

I found the reason for the stuttering, it was a program called Flux (it makes the screen warmer at night, wich is a shame that that i can't use cause of the stuttering). So the stuttering is no longer a factor

I am very disappointed that such an expensive notebook with such a serious error is not working for months. :-(

I happen to pass by Microsoft Store in downtown Toronto where I purchased my XPS 13 (Signature Edition) and asked a store guy if they experienced an issue with the flickering, and said he's not aware of it and not happening with the laptops on display, or he just doesn't know a thing.  As all laptops are already running Windows 10, I checked the video driver and took a snapshot.  The Intel video driver is 10.18.15.4256, see photo.  I played around with it, closed the lid, waited, opened, no flicker.  Manually put it to sleep, waited, no flicker. I believe I already posted before that I had 4256 and it's flickering, and everytime 4240 is applied, Windows update will always put it back to 4256.  There are two units of XPS 13 on display and both have 4256 and not having a flicker issue as I also tested the other one.

I did not checked if C-State is disabled but the store guy says they did not changed any settings.  The XPS 13 is already sold out at that store. I will go back again on Monday with my laptop to show them the flicker, then I will check the unit's BIOS' C-State setting.

I have the same driver and had a flicker problem when I purchased the computer a month or so ago with Win8 and subsequently upgraded to Win10. Following the posted suggestions I disabled C-State and that worked but as warned battery life was adversely affected.  Then on August 26th MarkMessenger posted that he was instructed by Dell to install Intel Chipset (Intel(R) Management Engine Components Installer Driver
Chipset_Driver_KFR45_WN32_11.0.0.1153_A00.EXE and it solved his flicker problem.  I used Dell's update checker and the same Chipset was noted so I installed it with C-State disabled.  The flicker stopped and then I turned C-State back on.  I've had no problem since then.  Try this approach you might like it especially if you upgraded to Win10 as opposed to buying the computer with Win10 installed.

I'd installed Intel Chipset (Intel(R) Management Engine Components Installer Driver Chipset_Driver_KFR45_WN32_11.0.0.1153_A00.EXE, but Dell's update checker still indicates that this driver requires update. Even after the manual download and update.
