XPS 13 Ultrabook and WIDI

I am trying to use WIDI to connect my laptop to LG Smart TV wirelessly.

It seems quite hard to get information about turning on WIDI.

I am not even sure if it is "supported", for a laptop sold without an HDMI port this is a useful feature to have.

Can anyone help me to know if my laptop supports WIDI and if not is it possible to get there?

The TV accepts WIDI and Miracast.

The manual coming with the XPS 13 mentions WIDI as optional in the manual but Miracast supported, the device is not visible on the TV and I could not find the setting to turn it on on the PC.

Mary thanks for the reply - in fact after some more digging I found the capability was hiding away inside the beast. XPS 13 (9343, Early 2015)

I have not used W8.1 very much yet - been on corporate W7 for last few years.
In W8.1 there is a setting menu seen from right hand swipe called DEVICES and then PROJECT that makes the LGTV pop up as an option and then I can share the screen to TV either as duplicate or extend with F8 key.

I don't know if it is using Miracast or WIDI - but it works!! Just a bit tricky to find the on switch.

I now see the LG TV in
Control Panel\Hardware and Sound\Devices and Printers

For some reason the TV shows up as 2 devices in the listing.

Optional means you have to order it when buying the computer. If you didn't specifically order it, you don't have it. IMO it is not worth the trouble to connect to a tv now that the Smart tvs have everything built in with apps or subscriptions. Recheck your LG manual to see what you can do now. Also--Windows 10 Cast To (formerly Play to) works pretty well. Consider a free upgrade to 10 if your computer qualifies. It's out July 29th.

Hi,

Thank you for writing to the Dell Community Forum.

Intel Wireless Display (WIDI) requires a laptop configured with Intel Core i3, i5, or non-quad-core i7 processor, Intel® Centrino® Wireless-N 1000 or Centrino® Advanced N 6200 wireless card, a Netgear PTV1000 Push2TV Media Adapter (sold separately), and an HDMI or composite AV-enabled display.

Hi All,

I had issues with WIDI as it would come up with error message saying WIDI is not enabled and was not quite sure if my 3 year old XPS 13 is compatible for WIDI, I went into Intel website and ran the tool, I had to update the driver to fix the issue. Hope it helps others
