XPS L502x - Realtek HD Audio no speaker or headphone sound

Hello,

I have an XPS L502x, I did a Factory re-insall from 3X DVD's after I changed from HDD to SSD ('m not sure if that has anything to do with the problem because I can't remember if it worked before I did the HDD to SSD swap and Factory re-install, however I do know it has worked at some time but it was possibly when I had done a manual windows and drivers install....

The problem is plugging in headphones or external speakers does not work, there is no audio....

Going to Control Panel - Hardware and Sound - Sound - Manage Audio Devices the SPEAKERS have a green tick, but REALTEK DIGITAL OUTPUT says "not plugged in".

Also when I go into Control Panel - Hardware and Sound - and click Realtek HD Audio Manager it simply does not open......

Any help appreciated, thank-you.

OK all above info on the Realtek HD Audio problem is from my SSD which I have on it a Factory Install made from 3DVD's before I did anything at all on my laptop. Totally 100% as received from factory...

So I remembered just before I took out my HDD I was getting something called a Rundll32 error, anyway I decided to put in my SSD and see if clicking on Realtek HD Audio Manager in Control Panel at least opens it....

When I did so I got this error box (it's shown at 2 links below)....

So it seems my backup on SSD of 100% Factory condidtion shows there has always been a probem since I received it, the original HDD would indicate the problem got worse in the week I used the HDD before changing to SSD....

Maybe drivers were installed in wrong order at the factory or something like that ? ? ?

Does this error box give you an idea what the problem is.....

Anyway I'll see what happens when I do a complete manual clean install tomorrow (something tells me it will be OK)............

Here's the 2 screenshots of the error :

WOW, it seems after ANOTHER re-install of the driver has finally got it working? Very strange, I didn't do anything different compared to the many other times I downloaded it..........

Has to be something with the Dell Factory install I received.

I restored everything back to 100% as I received from factory.

Headphones etc. won't work.

Uninstalled Realtek and re-installed it (R300326), when restarting Windows it an error pop up said "Windows Host Process - (Rundll32) has stopped working".

This seems to be the problem right from 100% factory install, whatever it means, the more detailed description has screenshots I posted earlier...

I guess something is not quite right about my factory install?

Oddly working again...

Not sure if it's because I ran "Creative Software Auto Update" and Creative "Get Bonus Software"?

OK I think I have fixed permanently.....

I did another factory install...., and as usual wasn't working from the start.

I went to Start Up then "Creative" folder and selected and ran "Creative Software Auto Update".

Now in Control Panel-Hardware&Sound when I click on Realtek HD Audio Manager it actually opens !!!

Also when I plug in headphones it works!

I also uninstalled the Realtek driver R300326 and re-installed it successfully without the Windows Rundll32 error....

So it seems problem is solved.

If this stuff is uninstalled headpones are shown to connect in Hardware and Sound, so it seems all is working right...

But I'm still a bit confused why I had to go to Start Up - Creative folder and download updates, because when I received from the factory I'm sure it already was working, but these 3 back-up to factory DVD's were made very first thing when I used my laptop for the first time, so I don't know why I have to run updates to get it working.... ???

Now my only problem is I want to do a manual install to keep permanently, but I don't have the activation code for my Creative - Sound Blaster XFi CD................

No problems at all from a clean Windows / drivers install...

Ok, I just installed all the current Creative software and then reloaded the current Realtek drivers (R267) from the Realtek website.  Now, the Dell Audio and Waves app will load (never did before), it recognizes when something is plugged into either headphone jack, but I can't get any sound through either 3.5 mm jack!?  In addition, you can't even force it to route sound through the 3.5mm jacks (which it should do automatically).

I just wanted to chime in and confirm the same problem.

I initially called tech support and they decided to send out a tech.  He replaced the motherboard(!), because the headphone jacks are integrated.  We still had the same problem even after the new motherboard was installed.  This verified it is software, not hardware (which I suspected all along).

Based on this thread, I uninstalled the Realtek drivers.  Now, one of the two headphone jacks work.  I'm in the process of downloading the Creative software updates.

Message to Dell:  This is a factory flaw with these drivers.  It is stupid that something as simple as integrated headphone jacks (circa 1990's tech) don't work on NEW laptops.  FIX THIS NOW.

i think it was the way the dell factory install was, i don't think the problem was fixed until i did a clean re-install myself of all drivers etc. - sorry it's hard to remember now from 9 months ago...

Sorry I don't remember exactly how I fixed it, as it was now about 18 months ago I had this problem...

I think it might have been something to do with a factory install error, but I'm not sure...

My best advice would be to uninstall / re-install the audio drivers etc., sorry but that's all I can remember....
