7480 fan malfunction

Hi

7480 latitude here.

The fan periodically starts going at full speed with pumping sounds. after i restart computer, i get a "fan malfunction message". (f1 to retry bot, f2 for setup utility, f5 to run diagnostics). diagnostics find nothing

this is happening daily and is very annoying.

any help will be much appreciated.

i installed the latest BIOS drivers; no change.

That could be as simple as the fan and/or vents plugged with dust. Try cleaning with a can of compressed air. If that does not help then restart the system and at the Dell splash screen start tapping F12. Run system diagnostics (yes again) paying special attention to the fan results. It is possible that you are having a problem with the fan and it may need replacement. If so and the system is under warranty then call Dell tech support for your region. They can diagnose the problem and take further steps to correct the problem.

Or it could be as simple as the cooling system on this laptop is not powerful enough.

Man (JOcean), this is a well known issue on this laptop, it has been discussed multiple times on this forum and I think many times to the support team. The cooling system is just like **bleep**.

@ap012345 The solution you have is either to sell the laptop and to take an other one, or to limit the CPU performance using a third party software like ThrottleStop.

Solution 2 for sure will kills the performance of the laptop.

my laptop is 6 months old and i am not running any heavy tasks (basically, chrome + ms office)

really really disappointed with the issue, i bought this paricular laptop largely because it was supposed to be *really* reliable

What is sure is that this laptop is reliably noisy.
