BIOS update version 1.34.3 will not boot

Latitude E5470

Latitude E5470

Today Dell Command Update told me I had a BIOS update and because this wonderful piece of software won't let me enter my admin password for BIOS updates I hopped over to the Dell website to download it. After installing the new BIOS update with everything saying successful I got the green BIOS update successful and your system will now restart. After the post screen I was presented with a 'no bootable devices found press any key to continue' message. Pressing any key did nothing, the only option I had was to hold the power button until the laptop shutdown.

I rebooted into the BIOS to check my boot order menu and sure enough my drive was listed as the first device with USB as the secondary. So confirming this I exited the BIOS to see if it would work and no, same message as before. Using the F12 one time boot menu and a flash drive I was able to roll back to BIOS version 1.33.3 and voila my laptop was back to normal.

I thought either the BIOS flash was to blame or perhaps the download may have gone wrong so I re-downloaded version 1.34.3 and this time installed it through the F12 boot menu. Everything said successful and after my laptop rebooted I was met again with the no bootable devices error. So I downgraded my BIOS back to version 1.33.3 and am looking for solutions.

I don't think this is the cause but I have upgraded the internal SSD to a samsung 1TB drive after the original hynix 128GB drive began failing. However I have upgraded the BIOS once before with the new drive and had no issues. I can see the drive within the new BIOS boot order menu it just refuses to see it as a bootable drive after the post screen.

Best guess is that the BIOS setting was changed after the update from AHCI to RAID which is the Dell default setting.

Same issue with a Dell e5470. Rolled back to 1.33.3 and it booted again.

I tried switching between AHCI and RAID as suggested by JOcean with no luck.

I have exactly the same issue with laptop Dell Precision 3510 "No bootable devices found press any key to continue". Rolling back BIOS to 1.33.3 helped to resolve the issue

Hi dazza555. Thankfully I looked here to see I'm not the only one having the same issue with my E5570 laptop. Can you please tell me where to find the earlier BIOS version?

Thank  you very much, Kevin.

I updated to 1.34.4 as well and had the exact same issue as OP. Downgrading to 1.33.3 immediately fixed it. This is very odd, as previous BIOS updates worked fine.

People, please DO NOT upgrade the BIOS to 1.34.4, as it will likely ruin your day and waste your time while you fix it. It's clear that this particular update is not as flawless as expected.

Has anyone seen or heard anything from Dell in regards to this issue?

Dell Command | Update keeps on trying to push 1.34.3 on to me so they haven't withdrawn the BIOS update so I guess ours is an isolated case?

I have precisely the same issue with laptop Dell Precision 3510 "No bootable devices found press any key to proceed". Rolling back BIOS to 1.33.3 solved the problem.

Seems is broke "Legacy boot" on 1.34.3 BIOS. So i was switch to UEFI boot, reformat HDD to GPT and reinstall Win10. Not best solution, but good as plan B. Plan A - rollback to 1.33.3 BIOS

Just the same issue on 9 of 48 Latitude E5470 today, I compared the machines with this issue to the other ones, the difference is the SSD-Type:

the machines that could not boot after BIOS Update to 1.34.3 had a M.2 PCIe SSD the others a M.2 SATA SSD, so I think the problem is that the new BIOS cannot any more boot with newer SSD Types in LEGACY Mode, possibly it can in UEFI-Mode but therfore I had no Images...so thank you for the hints to downgrade...PLEASE TELL DELL to repair this!!

how do you roll back?? Please guide

May 20th, 2023 16:00

How to roll back:

1. Go to the Dell Support Website for your laptop model (https://www.dell.com/support/home/en-au/product-support/product/latitude-e5470-laptop/drivers for a e5470 for example)

2. Click 'Drivers and Downloads), then 'Find Drivers'

3. In the results down below click 'Dell Precision 3510 and Latitude E5270/E5470/E5570 System BIOS'

4. This will expand the BIOS listing. Click 'Older Versions' next to '1.34.3, 1.34.3'. This will open up a new dialog window where you can select what version of the BIOS to download. I recommend 1.33.3.

5. Clicking on your chosen BIOS version will open a new tab. You want to download the 'BIOS Recovery Image File' version (*.rcv) rather than the *.exe.

6. Follow the instructions here - https://www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/en-au/000123870/how-to-flash-the-bios-on-a-dell-desktop-or-notebook-with-a-usb-thumb-drive#:~:text=Plug%20the%20USB%20flash%20drive,OPTIONS%2C%20select%20BIOS%20Flash%20Update.

7. You'll be able to reflash the BIOS to your chosen version (such as 1.33.3).

I thought I'd check back as to this day Dell Command update keeps telling me to update the BIOS to version 1.34.3 but it seems Dell doesn't care about us and would rather we turf our laptops and buy new ones. Well if that's the case I won't be buying a Dell. One would think if they cared an update would have been released 2 years ago but I guess not.

hello every one.

yesterday i installed Win10 and then i put my DELL E5570 on update, windows auto downloads BIOS 1.34.4 update, then it asks me to restart, after restart, my screen goes deep back and wont start again, well then i removed my M2 SSD from board and then again i start my laptop and it goes to windows but now the problem is whenever i restart my laptop it wont goes to windows, untill i remove my SSD from mother board then shuts my laptop directly from power button and then install SSD in laptop board. Now i want to know how to delete BIOS 1.34.4 updates from windows without uninstalling windows, i even disable firmware from DeviceManager too.
