Can’t remove admin or system bios passwords
I’ve got a Dell Latitude 5420 which I set a couple of years ago a bios admin password and a system password. I’ve decided I no longer need them as I want to sell the laptop however I’m unable to remove them.
I go into bios, into passwords, successfully enter the admin or system password, enter again on new password. Yet still stays the same. Even after ‘saving’ and rebooting the passwords still there.
I’ve even tried changing the password from the bios - same issue on reboot old password is back.
jo matter how I’ve done it and what steps it’s the same.
any suggestions? I don’t mind keeping the admin password as I can just give that on. But the System password on every boot is too much so want to remove it but as above - won’t remove.
any other tips to even just remove the system password? Any way to flash the bios / bios recovery where system passwords can be wiped?

To remove both the system and administrator passwords in Windows 11, you can either use the "Sign-in options" settings, or the command prompt. If you're using a local account, you can change the password to blank, effectively removing it. For Microsoft accounts, you can sign in with a local account instead.
Here's a breakdown of both methods:
1. Using Sign-in Options (for local accounts):
Open Settings: Click the Start button, then click the Settings icon (gear icon).
Go to Accounts: Click on "Accounts".
Choose Your Info: Click on "Your info".
Sign in with a local account: Click on "Sign in with a local account instead".
Follow the prompts: Confirm your current password, create a username, and leave the password fields blank.
Sign out and finish: Click "Sign out and finish".
2. Using Command Prompt (for local accounts):
Open Command Prompt as Administrator: Search for "cmd" in the Start menu, right-click on "Command Prompt," and select "Run as administrator".
Type the command: Type net user <username> * (replace <username> with your actual username) and press Enter.
Enter a new password: You will be prompted to enter a new password. Leave the password fields blank to remove the password.
Confirm: Press Enter to confirm the change.
Restart: Restart your computer to test the changes.

@DELL-Jesse L
did you not even read the question asked - I said. BIOS passwords. Not windows passwords.
in plain English again - the admin and system. bIOS passwords will not go. I remove them from bios, save changes, exit and reboot and they are back again.

@Finchpeter
unplug charger, open the device and unplug the CMOS battery.
Press the powerbutton for at least 30 sec.
Reassemble CMOS battery and close the device.
Reconnect charger and try to remove the BIOS password again.
Update BIOSto the latest release, found here
