Latitude E5470 Need BIOS admin password clear.

Hello

Like other users on this forum I came across a Dell Latitude E5470 from a recycler as the warranty period expired so the original owners sent it to the recycle market rather than purchase additional warranty coverage.

Problem is, the IT department of the original owners decided to employ BIOS password protection so now I cannot update the BIOS with a reported critical update (according to Dell).

Is there a way to restore the laptop to factory BIOS with no password?   I have already re-installed Window on the HDD which wasn't encrypted so this is the last hurdle.

I'm getting BSoD's now with the following codes:

BCCode: 44
BCP1: FFFFFA800D997B80
BCP2: 0000000000000EC0
BCP3: 0000000000000000
BCP4: 0000000000000000
OS Version: 6_1_7601
Service Pack: 1_0
Product: 256_1

I don't know what these codes mean and without the ability to update the BIOS i'm dead in the water anyway.

Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Dell will want you to provide proof of ownership #1 and then charge you #2. Not sure what they require for #1.

maybe try installing Windows 10 on another PC and move that hard drive to the E5470

Changing HDD won't correct the BIOS admin password issue.

Without taking the unit apart to try a cmos (battery) reset I'm hoping to acquire a reset code.

Proof of ownership isn't possible where I acquired it as a recycler.

Thanks for your input.

Welcome to the Dell Community @Dwight

Use your first/top one.

Do not forget to hold down the left "Ctrl" key and hit enter 2 times.

If it does not work then contact Dell Support.

best regards,

The only legitimate way to clear the password:

Place a voice call to Dell support.  Be prepared with your ownership details (name, address, phone number on file).  Also be prepared with a credit card as the call will not be free out of warranty.

If you can't provide these, you will be replacing the system board.
