Laptop graphics drivers are specifically tweaked by the manufacturer for the motherboard configuration. That's why you always have to use the driver supplied by Dell.
The driver from Dell's support site is "ancient" because the E6540 is a 5-6 year old model originally designed for Windows 7 and Dell is not updating drivers for it. The drivers direct from AMD, NVIDIA and sometimes even Intel will seldom work.
This solution doesnt work either, I have also tried installing the new amd driver over the old one while unchecking the box that asks to delete the old driver.
System still locks up during install and then after rebooting the system, it locks up either during bootup or immediately after it boots in to windows.
Hi. I've fixed a couple of E6540 laptops and what puzzles me is that on 2 or 3 of them, when I tried to install AMD driver from the official site (adrenalid edition 20.x.x) it froze the os, but on the rest it only froze the OS during the last install phase but after hard reboot, it worked like a charm. What is the decisive factor which makes it work or not?

Hi my friend
Ihave This Laptop And Iknow What You feel
This is the Solution :
1-Format you Laptop And Install Windows 10 (use Windows 10 super lite for more performance)(Optional)
2-Install Display Drivers (Both Intel and AMD from dell website)
3-Download the Latest AMD Driver from AMD web site
4-Install the new Driver(AMD WEBSITE) over the old one (dell website) and unchecked the Factory reset
5-Enjoy
