Windows 11 Pro Activation

I have a Dell Vostro 5510 15" laptop. The laptop's current operating system is Windows 10 Pro, and the laptop also includes a Windows 11 Pro License. How do I upgrade the laptop to begin using the Windows 11 Pro license, and what is needed before I do that upgrade? Newbie here so I appreciate any advice on the proper way to go about accomplishing this change. Thank you.

Make and verify a backup of the existing system -- you can use an imaging utility like Macrium Reflect if you have an external drive.

Once that's done, kick of the installation from the MS Media Creation tool

@ejn63 Thank you. I will check out Macrium Reflect to get things started and then try to kick off the Win 11 installation.

Hi

Just a bit of info...

https://www.theregister.com/2025/10/13/windows_11_media_creation/

Currently the W11 installer may not function flawlessly...

""

Microsoft has broken its own Windows 11 media creation tool just as millions of users face a deadline to abandon Windows 10 — and with less than 24 hours until support officially ends.

The company acknowledged on October 10 that version 26100.6584 of the tool, released September 29, "might not work as expected when used on Windows 10 devices." In reality, it simply doesn't work — a particularly inconvenient failure given Microsoft's months-long campaign of pop-ups and notifications urging Windows 10 users to upgrade.

So RUFUS is a fallback position...........
