Area-51 AAT2250, Linux Mint, fan control on wake?

I'd really like to use Linux Mint on my Area 51 AAT2250, but while it installs and runs mostly fine, when it wakes from sleep none of the fans ever spin back up until I do a full reboot. I've tried a bunch of different distros including non-Ubuntu/Debian ones and they all exhibit the same problem.

I hunted around for fan control programs but most (all?) of them seem to be designed with AW laptops in mind (eg. i8k) or are system agnostic but still don't seem to work (eg. CoolerControl).

Has anybody had any luck getting this to work at all?
