I'd recommend not upgrading BIOS to 1.2.3.

I have a 9360 Developer Edition with stock hardware (512GB NVMe), all default options, and pre-installed Ubuntu. After upgrading to 1.2.3, I can't boot anymore with the same error people have been reporting: the device isn't recognized anymore at boot time (and by default jumps to Dell's Support Assist for memory testing instead).

I have a 9360, 16gb ram, 512gb NVME SSD. Machine came with windows 10 home

I run Ubuntu 16.10 Yakkety. The machine had bios version 1.0.7

I upgraded to Bios 1.2.3.

Not even 1 problem. Ugraded bios fine, and booted fine. Hard drive works perfectly. Been using it for 3 weeks now.

By the way I run Ubuntu Mainline Kernel 4.9, and that has really fixed any touchpad / screen issues.

Thanks @kavirondo. Be interested to hear anyone running Yakkety with default (4.8) Kernel who has successfully done the upgrade - & I guess an explanation of why some users (e.g. @nomo1) report disk not recognised problems after upgrading on similar/same hardware..

I have a DE but update via software center hadn't worked for me to. I guess because Dell did something wrong. For more details and instructions please look at

But I suppose to ask support why automatic updates doesn't work. I think it's supposed to work and Dell should fix it

Actually @kavirondo, I'd be grateful if you could share your process for BIOS upgrade, as I've not done this before. Dell's instructions here say "Ubuntu 16.04 and later natively will notify you for BIOS updates" but I have had no such notification - I guess this may apply to Dell installed Linux (Sputnik/DE) unlike yours/my setup? Anyhow, will follow the BIOS flashing from USB instructions there unless I hear differently.
