Just incase nobody was aware, the USB D3100 dock drivers for Linux showed up on Aug 18th. I'm running these drivers on Ubuntu 15.04, and it appears to be working.
Well for me the drivers do not work. I have Dell Inspiron 15 with Ubuntu 16.04 LTS. I installed the drivers and connected the D3100 dockstation. Laptop froze, I could do nothing, so I had to do force shutdown. After that I could not boot the Ubuntu, it only went to emergency mode with console. Then I had to install Ubuntu all over again.

I'd love D3100 worked with Ubuntu 14.10+ laptops. Please, DELL, make it possible.

So be careful when trying D3100 with Ubuntu.
