Hi Njam, thanks for your reply. I had enabled encryption (I think this was just for my home directory in Ubuntu). The steps look a little risky (possibility of losing my home dir) so I will leave this for another day when I have more time.
For now Im going to live with not being able to suspend. Would be nice if we could encrypt and suspend but nevermind..
The new firmware came out yesterday as an automatic download through the Ubuntu software centre. It now suspends without crashing! Hopefully this did the trick.

Sometimes I have the same issue when external display is connected via docking station. Do you see the same without external display?

I'm experiencing the same.
Computer: XPS 13 9360
BIOS: 1.0.7
Ubuntu: 16.04
Kernel: 4.4 and also tried 4.8
I have my disk encrypted which might be related. Will try without…
