Mounting SD Card...

Hi folks,

Had my motherboard/SSD/keyboard/screen in my 9350 DE replaced today (still horrific coil whine under load though :-( and the cut outs for the headphones etc. are now misaligned - boo) and had to reinstall Ubuntu from my recovery drive (Note to Barton/Jared: Dell support serving the UK don't seem to realise you sell laptops with Ubuntu preinstalled, or support it, and the site support engineers/techs also do not support the OS and are unable to reinstall on site). I went through the BIOS before reinstallation and made all the settings that seemed necessary, including those pertaining to the SD card (accessible, not read only). Have since updated Bios to v. 1.3.3 and checked settings again.

After reinstalling the Ubuntu that comes with the laptop, SD cards no longer automatically mount. Can anyone tell me how I can troubleshoot whether this is an OS problem or if the new mobo is faulty/not connected properly?

Diagnostic tests (holding Fn on boot) show no errors (92% battery health on a new (< 1 week, most of which it wasn't used) laptop (?!), couple of degraded links and a missing device, but nothing reports as an error).

Additional drivers section in Ubuntu Software Update shows:

Dell Inc. Unknown using synaptic-i2c-hid etc.

Intel Corp.: Unknown using Bluetooth firmware for DW1802 etc.

Intel Corp.: Unknown using WiFi Firmware for Intel 8260 from wifi-intel8260-firmware

Intel Corp.: Unknown using HDA driver in DKMS format

Unknown:Unknown using Meta package for Dell dino2.

SD card tested and functional (FAT32) using Win 10 on another PC.

Thanks in advance!

    An update to this: forced an upgrade to 16.04 LTS and the SD card reader started working again, but there was then no sound when headphones were plugged in (otherwise it seemed to work perfectly). Used recovery image to go back to 14.04 LTS as supplied by Dell and the SD card reader stops working again, so it looks like a fault with the recovery image.

    @Speendle,

    Thank you for detailed technical post. Dell's Project Sputnik team asked me to reach out to you in order to gather symptom information from you, and to see if we can drive solution together.

    Please send me a friend request. Once I accept, I'll PM you so that you can reply to me with your service tag and email address. I'll see what options we have at that point.
