Parallel printer on USB port?

Bought a new Inspiron 1525n in April with Ubuntu factory installed.  Couldn't connect my beloved HP Laserjet 4 printer because it only has serial and parallel ports, and the Dell laptop only has USB ports.  I tried a USB-Parallel cable, but Ubuntu doesn't recognize that there's anything plugged into the USB port.  I bought a wireless print server that plugs into the Laserjet.  The documentation that came with it is terrible!!!  After three weeks of playing around with it, I got it up and running but it was kinda slow.  After two months, the print server quit working, and now I can't get it going again.  Any other options?  Is there a way to manually configure Ubuntu to force it to print through the USB-parallel cable?

USB --> parallel port is problematic even with Windows   Buy a new printer with USB.
