Alienware 17 R3 screen corruption/blanking issue

I'm having an issue with my Alienware 17 R3 with UHD screen and Nvidia 980M and Intel graphics.  Basically, MOST OF the screen has started to blank out intermittently, IE, the left 7/8ths of the screen goes black, and the last eighth on the right stays normal, I can move the mouse over there and see it move, windows responds to all input, so the system hasn't froze.  Sometimes I can hibernate the machine and bring it back up and the whole screen will be fine, and sometimes it'll have weird white vertical bars.

All hardware tests pass on the machine.  I can take a screenshot when the screen blanks out, and I get a full screenshot, not the 7/8ths of the screen black thing, so I'm wondering if it's not the display panel itself?  All drivers on the system are up to date, as is the bios.

I have the same problem although sometimes when the screen is on the far quarter of the screen is a different shade of white, after I restarted the laptop I'm only getting either a full black screen or 3/4 grey and 1/4 black, when I press on the keyboard I hear the background noise and when I plug in the mouse I hear the windows sound, please help!

Hi,

Try by connecting the system to an external monitor/TV so we can see if the same happens on the external or not. This way we can find out if the problem is more related to software or hardware.

If I plug in to an external monitor/tv, I get a display on that just fine.
