Alienware 18 SSD upgrade configuration
I have from the factory 80gb msata and 1tb hdd. I'd like to replace the HDD with a SSD and put the HDD in the second slot while maintaining the msata cache. I upgraded to windows 8.1, purchased alienRespawn and created recovery media as suggested for reinstalling OS. Is Raid 0 retained after reinstalling OS to new SSD across all drives? What is the best way to set up drives for best performance?

What is the best way to set up drives for best performance? Drop the small SSD cache.
Just install a 256gb (or larger) SSD for OS-Boot, Windows and main programs. Use 1tb spinning HDD (or whatever you want) in next bay for larger games and/or data files.

Thanks.
But for clarity, do you mean enter bios and remove msata association with cache so that it will just be another place I can store things and adding the new SSD as a boot drive? Will this allow the best performance? Should I set everything up in Raid?
