Alienware M11x Hinge Issue

Has there been any movement by Alienware/Dell to set up replacement schedules for the hinge replacement. Mine is now out of warranty and I do not want to send it in for replacement. I was wondering if a replacement screen could be shipped as with other replacement parts and I could install it myself. Then return the defective screen to Dell. I have temp.repairs holding at this time but not sure how long it will last.

Is this the r3 model? I was told on chat that the hinge issue has been resolved and they have had no reports of broken or damaged hinges...

I am sorry for not including the model in my post. It is not an r3 it is an r2 model with broken hinges. My warranty has expired and I have repaired the hinges myself and it is my understanding I still qualify for replacement.

When did you order your laptop? I believe the re-engineered hinges were released in March... not sure though

It's over one year old March 2010 so it does not have the new hinges. I have repaired the hinges myself once and was wondering if an our of warranty fix is available. I would rather replace the display myself instead of sending it to the Dell if that is possable. I don't want to be without the laptop for any length of time.

Ohhhh... You did the DIY fix once? You should call them and find out if you can get it fixed :)
