Area 51 R2 - RAID 0
I have scoured the forums and cant seem to find a concrete answer.
Does the Area 51 R2 support RAID at all?
In my other machines, I could press CTRL+I and enter the optionROM screen where i could setup the volumes.
Dont see an option in BOIS to set either AHCI or RAID.
I have read in posts it supports RAID on ports 1,2,3... not 4, 5 and 6.
If it supports it, how are you getting the volumes setup?
Hopefully I am missing something simple and obvious.

I realize it has been a while since anyone posted in this thread. However, I had the same issue, and could not get the above method to work. The solution was to disable Secure Boot as indicated in the following post by lonchors at

Customers are not able to change SATA from AHCI to RAID in the system BIOS.
Answer
There is no longer an option to change between AHCI and RAID mode in the system BIOS. The BIOS will now have RAID set by default. The customer can configure RAID as normal in the Intel RAID Configuration tool by pressing Ctrl + I on boot up.
Please note that Secure Boot must be disabled in order for the Intel RAID menu to appear. This option is available in the BOOT section of the BIOS. Also, the customer must have more than one HDD physically connected to Controller 1 otherwise they will not be able to access the RAID utility. Controller 1 ports are the ports labelled Sata 1, Sata 2, Sata 3.

Have you check in the BIOS in the advance tap? There is an option that says SATA Mode where you can enable the RAID.
As soon as you enable the RAID you will have the option to enter into optionROM screen.

I just got the same PC and there is nowhere in the BIOS any option or configuration for the AHCI / RAID / DATA configuration under the advance tap.
How can enable AHCI on the SSD drive?
Please let me know.

On Area 51 R2 there is no need for raid in BIOS. This how to create RAID 0 or RAID 1.
1. Add two equal sized disks in drive bay. For this recipe refer to disks as AlienA and AlienB.
2. Do not partition AlienA or AlienB.
3. Add seperate disk to drive bay. which will contain the Windows 8.x OS. Drive is AlienOS.
4. Install OS to AlienOS. Add ALL MS Windows updates.
5. Download ALL software/drivers from http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/04/product-support/product/alienware-area51-r2/drivers
6. Install all software/drivers from the above page.
7. Open Intel Application folder
8. Start app "Intell Rapid Storage Technology"
9. Disks AlienA and AlienB will be shown on right side of IRST GUI
10. Use "Manage" link or button to choose AlienA and AlienB to create single disk AlienAB
11. AlienAB is NOT partitioned yet
11. Use Windows Disk Management to create and format partitions on AlienAB
12. Now you have RAID!
