I'm experiencing a problem with my Alienware M17x where if I have both NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260M's enabled my screen goes incredibly dark. However, if I attach an external display everything shows up on the external monitor just fine. If I boot the laptop up in safe mode my laptop screen works fine. And if I disable one of them it works fine in normal boot up mode. This problem came out of nowhere a couple days ago so I called Alienware Tech Support and the man 'rectified' the problem by 'disabling' a program from the startup in msconfig. I ended the phone call thinking it was fine, however I later noticed my discrete graphics weren't enabled. When I went to the device manager it said something along the lines of they both weren't working properly. It said Code 31 in parentheses. I called Alienware Tech Support again and the lady decided to uninstall and reinstall them which 'fixed' that problem, however my screen went back to being black/very dark. She then disabled one of them and my screen went back to normal. She said one of the 260M's must be damaged and insisted on me sending in my laptop to get it fixed. I was wondering if anyone here had any ideas on what else it could be? If you need anymore information please ask. Thanks for the help.
