Missing Driver
After having to do a reset to Windows 8, I reinstalled all available drivers on the support page for my Alienware M17 R4. However, I still have one "unknown device". The action center on Windows 8 is giving me this message:
Solve a problem with COMPAL Embedded System Control
COMPAL Embedded System Control is missing a driver.
To find out if a solution or an updated version of COMPAL Embedded System Control is available, go online to your PC manufacturer’s website.

Reinstalling the chipset driver did not fix the issue and uninstalling COMPAL Embedded System Control and reinstalling it did not help. When I uninstalled COMPAL Embedded System Control a totally different Hardware ID was showing up as a unknown device. Which would disappear upon reinstall. it was definitely not the OSD driver either.
After giving up, I called Alienware Tech Support, after about 45 minutes of watching the tech do the same things I had already tried he somehow discovered it was in fact a missing Wireless On/Off driver that is not showing as an available driver to me under my service tag.

Hi AVignati,
You may try to install the Chipset driver. If Other Devices shows up again, you may provide the hardware ID so that I can look for the driver. Right click on Unknown Device -> choose Properties -> Details
Expand Other Devices -> right click on -> choose Properties -> Details (see example screenshot)
Please reply if you have any questions.

Hi AVignati,
Thank you for the response. Would like to know if installing the chipset driver has fixed the issue. I tried to look for the driver using the Hardware ID. IT indicates towards the COMPAL Embedded System Control. Installing the chipset driver should take care of this issue.
Awaiting your response.

Hi AVignati,
Thank you for your detailed response. Unfortunately steps that I shared were not of much help. It appears that the Alienware support was able to figure out the problem. Let me know if you need any further help; would be glad to assist.

NataliaatAW - Is absolutley right, just had the same yellow bang appear in my device manager while re-installing windows 8 on a M17x R4, it disappeared after installing alienware OSD.
