Problem with headset sound on new Alienware 17!
Hi. I just got my new Alienware 17 laptop yesterday. I have started installing games etc... on it. The only problem I have is that the sound of my earphones are very poor. I had a similar problem like this on my older laptop (also a Dell) but I fixed that by going to IDT Audio Manager and setting the speaker size of my headset to large. Then it produced a HD sound... Now the problem is that my new laptop don't use IDT for sound... It seems like it is using Realtek... I tried to find the Realtek HD Audio manager but couldn't find it anywhere. I did however find a Dolby digital home theater application, but I cant change much settings in there. I have checked that all my drivers are up to date. How do I fix this?

Headphones without an attached boom microphone should be plugged into #8.

Hi,
Under programs and features I have Realtek High Definition Audio Driver and Dolby Digital Plus Home Theatre.
I found "Alienware Audio" and "Dolby Digital Plus Home Theatre" under Hardware and Sound. I checked both but still didn't find the option to adjust the size of my speaker. I unfortunately don't have any other sound system. When I use my laptops built in speakers, the sound is fine. It must then be with my earphones settings?

Everything goes well until I have to launch the Realtek HD Audio Manager. I do have the Realtek High Definition Audio under Sound, video and game controllers. However I am unable to start the manager. When I double click on "Realtek High Definition Audio " it doesn't launch the Audio Manager. Oh and my earphones don't have a mic, and they are plugged into #8.

I re-installed the driver, still no Audio manager except that from alienware and Dolby. I checked on my other laptop the setting I need to change, it is the "SRS TruBass Speaker Size". I need to change it to large. Maybe you can tell me where to find that?1793

Hi!
You should be able to find the Audio Manager in the Control Panel (first, check under Programs and features to make the software is installed). Try adjusting the settings there, if issue persist, I recommend you test a different headset and external speakers.
