A few things you might try.

1) in documents there is a folder named AlienFX. You may have a duplicate or the settings may have become corrupted. If you delete the folder you will need to go back into Control Center and set up your preferences again.

2) uninstall, clean registry, and reinstall current version. Since you have installed a different operating system there may have been a conflict with the current version installed.

3) use the search function on this forum to find similar posts.

I did your suggestion #2 and it seems to have worked. I did it late in the day, so didn't have time to reboot and install, but I did that this morning.
