This thread (linked below)  is about an Aurora-R5, but most applies to an Aurora-R6. Since the chipset is slightly different, base or stock-clock for ram memory is 2400mhz, with 2667 (actually 2666mhz) for XMP.

Today I ordered the 16gig UDIMM @2400 as it was b/o when I purchased my R6, you must have the same spec. memory stick or else the memory will operate at the speed of the slowest ram stick. You also need to install pairs into the same color memory slot.

Correct. It will be interesting to see how closely it matches the other DIMM.
 
CPUID's CPUz will analyze and ;If memory is truly running in Dual Channel mode
- How the memory chips are arranged on the DIMMs (the Ranking)

- SPD info like CAS/RAS timings as well as any JEDEC and XMP profiles

When you are lucky enough to get two DIMMs pre-installed in your Aurora-R5/R6, the factory always installs them in the white-tabbed DIMM slots XMM1 and XMM2.
 
I have done the same and also verified Dual-Channel Mode with CPUz.

I am confused:

If page 19 says slot 1 [xmm1] is black and slot 2 [xmm2] is white, and page 74 says 'Use slots XMM1 and XMM2 if you need to use two memory modules, why is p.74 right and p.19 wrong?

Edit: I spoke with Dell supervisor and indeed 2 memory sticks need to go into same color slots for dual channel capability so p.74 is wrong as the slot configuration for 2 x 16gig should be slot 1 [xmm1] and slot 3 [xmm3] not slots 1 & 2.  Note, MB slots 1 & 3 in the manual on p.19 are black and 2 & 4 are white...I assume these are the actual colors on the mother board.

1. I guess you didn't read the other thread carefully. The legend descriptions on Page 19 are clearly WRONG.

2. CORRECT. That's what I've been saying.

3. Incorrect. For the info presented, the chart is correct. For two DIMMs, you use the two white-tabbed DIMM slots, which are XMM1 and XMM2.
 
But technically, this manual section is incomplete because it doesn't account for newer 16gb DIMMs (which coincidentally, Dell IS SHIPPING). There are also limitations with XMP (if actually running it at the Over-Clocked 2666mhz). There are various issues surrounding all this. That is why I have put considerable time into documenting inaccuracies and omissions on this forum. I have also submitted a whole list of Aurora-R6 Service Manual changes to Dell. Maybe it will get revised before Aurora-R7 comes out.
