The CD/DVD section of the forum is where to post CD burning problems.
I don't know that all the iTunes diagnostic data is needed. Can you burn audio CD's with your regular CD burning program? If you can then it's probably an ITunes error and if it's an ITunes problem you need to contact ITunes about that.
Same error - different Dell. I have a Inspiron 8200 with a HLDTST RW/DVD GCC424IN drive. I have upgraded my firmware and changed my burn speed. No luck. Have previously had NO problems burning CDs from itunes. I have also posted thie problem in multiple places and many other people have the same problem. No solutions yet.
I don't care if it's Dell or Itunes but you guys need to stop pointing fingers and help us out.
Full error:
Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2 (Build 2600)
Dell Computer Corporation Inspiron 8200
iTunes 6.0.2.23
CD Driver 2.0.4.3
CD Driver DLL 2.0.3.2
UpperFilters: GEARAspiWDM (2.0.4.3),
Video Driver: Dell 8200 \GeForce4 440 Go
IDE\DiskHITACHI_DK23EA-30_______________________00K4A0C1, Bus Type ATA, Bus Address [0,0]
IDE\CdRomHL-DT-ST_RW/DVD_GCC-4241N_______________A101____, Bus Type ATA, Bus Address [1,0]
Some computers need an update to the ATA or IDE bus driver, or Intel chipset. If iTunes has problems recognizing CDs or hanging or crashing while importing or burning CDs, check the support site for the manufacturer of your computer or motherboard.
Current user is administrator.
D: HL-DT-ST RW/DVD GCC-4241N, Rev A101
Media in drive is blank.
Get drive speed succeeded.
The drive CDR speeds are: 4 10 16 24.
The drive CDRW speeds are: 4 10.
The last failed audio CD burn had error code -128(0xffffff80). It happened on drive D: HL-DT-ST RW/DVD GCC-4241N on CDR media at speed 0X.
It goes back to what I said originally. Can you burn CD's with your regular CD burning program? On newer Dimension's Dell is providing Sonic Record Now. I don't know what software is provided with the desktops.
But, it needs to be determined if it is an overall problem or just an application problem.
Yes, I can burn Cds with Roxio (software which came with my Dell laptop), I just can't burn from itunes like I could before the itunes upgrade. I am sure it is an itunes issue BUT the error states there is a driver issue and to check with the computer manufacturer. I am just trying to cover both sides.
Speaking of pointing the finger "if my software doesn't work you need a hardware driver upgrade". That's really a cop out. Reminds me of the standard programmer joke, when I was a programmer at NASA when we would go for program debug/checkout. "My program won't run so you must have a hardware problem".
Any time a vendor says "it's not my problem", the customer is left holding the bag trying to find out what is really wrong.
From many posts on this forum, Dell apparently only issues updates if the hardware does not perform to Dell's specs.

BTW, I don't work for Dell.
