I posted a message about having problems after upgrading to Windows XP. It was suggested to me by "arcorob" that I clear CMOS or NVRAM. I went to the Dell File Library and performed a search on this subject. I was pleased to find instructions on exactly how to perform this task.

One of the necessary steps, is to put the computer into Maintenance Mode. When I performed on a search on how to do this, I was advised to locate document FA1022544 which provides these instructions. The instructions state that its necessary to open the box and move the "configuration jumper" to a certain position and then close the box and boot up. This should put the computer into maintenance mode. When finished with the clearing, you simply reverse the procedure to return to standard mode. There is a diagram of the inside of a computer which shows the location of this "jumper." Unfortunately, its not a diagram of the inside of my computer. This is the problem.

This is supposedly the technical overview of a Dimension XPS B___r computer which is what I have. But on the inside, nowhere is there anything that remotely resembles the configuration jumper as described under the System Board Connectors and Sockets.

Now what do I do? I truly believe that this is the problem that I'm having. How do I find out exactly how to put my computer into maintenance mode? Or maybe its not necessary, but I need to know why the instructions say its necessary.

A response from a Dell representative would be appreciated. I e-mailed for technical support a few days ago and have yet to hear from anyone at Dell (although I've been e-mailed a survey form to complete on the service I was supposed to have received-yet haven't).
