disable ACPI

I have E520 and I recently purchased external Creative SoundBlaster Live 24 bit. The record software that comes with Creative does not work. Creative support asks me to disable ACPI in the BIOS of my motherboard. I'm running Windows XP. Anyone know how and problems in doing so if any?

ACPI does a variety of things, most notably power management. See here.

I think it is pretty bad that they made that suggestion.

I don't think modern computers have that option. If they did, you would lose power management at least.

you should still be able to do it during an XP install if you press F5 when you see the press F6 message.  Pick "standard PC"

Seriously though, you shouldn't have to do it.  Creative just has terrible software, especially for their older products.  Do you need this specific software from them?  Usually the driver package is enough to get all functionality of the card -- the extra programs they offer are primarily useless fluff (in my humble opinion).
