Estimated Ship Dates?
What does an estimated ship date really mean?
When I ordered my Studio XPS 435MT on Feb 2 the estimated ship date was Feb 6. When I received my order confirmation minutes later the estimated ship date was moved to Feb. 17. Today, on Feb 17, at 1PM, my estimated ship date was changed to March 5.
I spoke with an "Executive Support Resolver" yesterday and she told me that my PC would ship today on Feb 17. What exactly happened between yesterday and today?
Also, why is the ship date on the Studio XPS order page also March 5? Was my order moved to the end of the line for some reason?
I am exceedingly confused.

The annoying thing is Dell will not update the ship date until AFTER you reach the original estimated ship date. So, I order on Feb 2. & end up with an Feb 17 estimated ship date. They don't tell me until the afternoon of Feb 17 that the NEW estimated ship date is March 5.
Why can't Dell be honest enough to update the ship date when they know it isn't going to ship on the listed date?

Hello Mattazuma,
Sounds to me like you ordered your system online, and often when you "customize" your system the individual parts are either not actually in stock or are in transit from a supplier. The estimated ship date is based upon when the system believes the components are likely to be in stock, so no you are not being moved in the line, the automated system is just adjusting for completion of the unit.
I personally have found that the estimated ship date is often posted as later than when the unit may actually arrive, so hang in there.

Ship dates are estimates on when it might ship. I believe it's based on all the parts being available and then they figure X amount of days for construction and such.
However, lack of parts, testing of systems and having a failure, where you are in the build queue, all those things play a part.
I ordered two mini 9s, online from Dell Outlet. Both showed a ship date of almost 10 days after the order. Well they don't have to build them as they are already built. But luckily one shipped 8 hours after I ordered it and I received it 3 days later. The other shipped the next day and I received it three days later.
