Expanded Memory Problems

I am running Windows XP on a Dell Dimension 8200. In addition I am attempting to use a legacy DOS application called Lotus 1-2-3 that requires the use of Expanded Memory. All of the documentation that I have found so far (and my personal experience with other systems running XP - HP in particular) leads me to believe that Expanded Memory is fully available to any application via the Memory tab of the Properties of the application. Simply setting the Expanded Memory selector to "Auto" in the Properties of the 1-2-3.exe file is all that has been necessary to allow the 1-2-3 application to have access to expanded memory.

This does not appear to hold true for Dell Dimension 8200 systems running Windows XP. All attempts to get the 1-2-3 application to see expanded memory have failed.

Is there any documentation available on this issue? Any known work-arounds, etc...?

Thanks in advance for any help.
