firewall recommendations please

I would appreciate any recommendations on what firewalls others would suggest using and those to avoid installing on my machine.

Currently, I am using a modem. I have a Dimension 4100, 933MHz, 256MB Scram and have NAV 2001 program installed on my machine.

Thank you for your help.

I suppose its in all what you like, I have the Norton Firewall myself and it works great for me. If you have the money I would also recommend it also or you can go with the Zone Alarm thats free.

Zone Alarm or Tiny Personal Firewall. I would go with ZA. It's free, everyone uses it and you are assured of support on boards like this one if you have questions.

ZoneAlarm. It is the standard to which all others are judged. You can find some enlightening information on most popular firewalls, here:

    http://grc.com/lt/scoreboard.htm

Some, with catchy sounding names, are in reality found to have some critical security flaws. Not only has ZA been rated the best available by just about every PC Magazine and on-line Technical site...it's free.

    birdwatcher,

You definitly NEED a firewall (more so if you have an ISDN, DSL or CABLE connection). I would recommend ZoneAlarm (which works great on my D4100 866). I would say Norton's Firewall is also good.. but would not use BlackICe Defender (at least not alone.. it does very bad at totally protecting you).

Good luck and enjoy the protection!

    Windows ME (yeah)
    and alot of other stuff...
