Hardware Malfunction(parity check/memory parity error)?

Hello!

I've got a serious problem with my brand new XPS 420. It's been two days since I've bought it, so the memory is almost free. Ocasionally(neary once half an hour) the computer crashes, the screen goes blue and an error message is displayed. Here's what it says (literally);

*** Hardware Malfunction

Call your hardware vendor for support

NMI: Parity Check / Memory Parity Error

***The system has halted***

Please help me solve this problem as soon as possible(it's a present for my son's birthday)! Or, if I wrote the message in the wrong topic, please replace it - it's not because I didn't read the rules, it's just that I simply don't know what's the problem...

The error message says it all "Hardware issue" Call Dell "XPS Specialized Care" # 1 800-964-8321

If your within 21 days you can return for a replacement, or they will send a tech to you.

You can boot to Dell Diagnostic F12 at Dell screen and run ALL tests.

As the XPS 420 is a brand new system, you should contact Dell's Technical ASAP about this, as this seems to be a memory problem

You could try removing and reseating the memory modules.

Please don't send me questions about your system by DCF Messenger.
Post the issue in the appropriate Board, where they will be answered.

Yeah, thanks, I'll try running the tests...Personally, I don't think it's a hardware problem because when I ran the computer at work, there were no problems of such kind...But when I brought the computer home and installed some programs(such as utorrent or qip) the system began to crash. Do you think it's possible that it's some kind of software conflict?

I've got the same problem with my new machine (xps 420, q6600, vista, 3gb). It's intermittent. It happens about once per day.

The blue screen will flash on regardless of what I'm doing or whether I'm even on the machine. I've swapped memory sticks around, run the machine with only 2 of my 4 sticks then swapped them, removed & reseated all connectors & cards. The problem persists in every combination. The memtest program shows no memory or hardware problems.

Dell support was of no help. any tips here would be greatly appreciated!

I just bought an XPS 420 with Q6600 2.4ghz, 500gb drive, 8600 GTS and had the same problem - The BSOD with the Parity Check/Memory Parity Error message was intermittent, but it usually happened after about 15 minutes.

I narrowed the problem down to a Belkin Wireless G Card  I added upon receipt. No problem since I removed the wireless card - PC goes like stink without interuption.

I checked here:

Have any others added hardware and suffered the same problem?

Found the problem. It was a USB card from the machine I was retiring. I got a vista-compatible USB card from Newegg and the problem went away.
